Everybody wants answers. North Carolina Haunted Houses are no different than any others around the world. They are real. Anybody who has experienced a haunting knows that. The question is…what are the rules? Can any Spirit do anything, any time? The short answer to that question is, “no”. Spirits of the departed stay near our physical realm by choice. They stay for reasons as varies as their personalities; that is to say, thousands of reasons. They pine for old lovers, terrorize those who did them harm, or just play practical jokes on people if that’s what they enjoyed in mortal life. But Spirits also have varying degrees of “vision”. Most of them only get glimpses of our world, while others see it with perfect clairty.
For some reason, the Ghosts at Panic Point are exceptionally clear, and have identified themselves by name. Most of them are harmless, but we know of a few who are anything but. I’ll give you one example. In 1839 a man named Elmore McGarrity arrived in North Carolina with some cash and a dream. He wanted to own land. After finding a willing seller he dropped cash on the barrel and became a proud land-owner. But a month later he got a visit from the real owner. The deed had been fraudulent. Peniless and homeless, Elmore drifted into a life of crime, and was eventually shot while attempting to steal a horse. While working at Panic Point we have seen him many times. His efforts to disrupt any and all business on the farm are well-known.
We’ve already had some near misses with falling lumber. But we think Elmore is just making his presence known, because he appears to be allowing the construction to proceed. Perhaps he wants to “blend in” in October when the haunt opens. Imagine coming across a specter on the trail and not knowing if its one of our friendly haunters or the Ghost of Elmore McGarrity? Skeptics will deny. Haters will hate. But if you come to Panic Point you can find out for yourself.
